Carla Accardi: The 70s

Categories

The Museo Correr’s initiative to dedicate an exhibition to Italian artist Carla Accardi takes place one hundred years after her birth.

Although she lived in Rome, Accardi established a constant bond with Venice throughout her life, both individually and professionally. Works, photos and other documentary materials highlight her relationship with the lagoon city, including an image from 1952 when, on the occasion of an exhibition at the Galleria del Cavallino, she visited the Guggenheim collection with her husband, artist Antonio Sanfilippo, and Tancredi Parmeggiani.

Carla Accardi can be considered one of the most prominent personas of the art scene of the 20th century for many reasons. In the aftermath of ww2 she helped the spread of non-figurative art in Italy by promoting the abstract group Forma. Moreover, she was a woman in a typically men’s field.
