Giardini della Biennale
The Ukranian Square
A special project landed at the Biennale a few days before the opening, conceived as a space dedicated to Ukrainian artists and their resistance to the Russian aggression: the Ukrainian Square – Piazza Ucraina – is built around a monument covered with sandbags, a reference to the practice widespread in wartime Ukrainian cities to protect public art from bombing. The installation designed by Ukrainian architect Dana Kosmina is set up in the Spazio Esedra of the Giardini della Biennale.
