After the great success of Tony Cragg’s solo exhibition, the Museo del Vetro of Murano welcomes another major exhibition: “Shattering Beauty”, a solo show by Simon Berger, the Swiss artist famous throughout the world for his portraits etched in glass. The exhibition features some 20 works, all never previously shown before, and explores the fragility of the human condition through the artist’s hypnotic and innovative sculptural practice.

Contrary to the tradition of blown or modelled glass, Simon Berger’s sculptural style is reminiscent of the act of etching and sculpting on the glass surface. A technique that succeeds in enhancing the limitless expressive possibilities of this age-old material that is still too little explored, testing the glass by pushing it to its limits, to the point of breaking: brushstrokes become hammer blows on a sheet of glass, causing cracks and breaks in the facial features.
