The already-assigned Leoni d’oro alla carriera – aka Golden Lions, special lifetime achievement awards – of this year’s festival will go to: French actress Catherine Deneuve and to American director and screenwriter Paul Schrader, best-known for the screenwriting of Taxi Driver.

As the festival approaches its 90th anniversary – the first edition having taken place in 1932 – a special programme has been announced by the Venice Biennale. The official day of the celebration has been appointed as July 9th 2022. The day will start with an international convention at the Biennale Gardens, in particular inside the library of the Historical Biennale Archive (ASAC).Then, at 9pm two major motion pictures dating back to the first Film Festival will be screened at the Palazzo del Cinema: “Regen” by Mannus Franken and Joris Ivens, and “Gli Uomini, che mascalzoni…” by Mario Camerini. A collateral exhibition about the first Venice Film Festival of 1932 will be presented at Ca’ Giustinian, open to the public from July 8th.
