Teatro Goldoni – one of the symbols of Venice – is a beautiful theatre located not far from Saint Mark’s Square, featuring a precious international programme all-year-long.

Built in 1622, Teatro Goldoni is the oldest theatre in Venice still in use today. Having been a witness of the great Venetian events for centuries, it is a symbol of the city, a landmark for the citizens of Venice and a not-to-be-missed destination for tourists.

Carlo Goldoni himself has worked here for 10 years since 1753, until his departure for Paris, and has written some of his best-loved masterpieces. After welcoming important actors such as Eleonora Duse, during the 20th century the building has undergone important renovation works.

Since its re-opening in 1979, the theatre was administered by eminent characters such as Giorgio Gaber, and in 1992 it passed under the management of Teatro Stabile del Veneto. The theatre has offered – Venetians and tourists alike – an important international programme for over 25 years, as well as various activities designed to suit the city, its inhabitants and the multitude of tourists from all around the world.
