Venice is preparing for the Feast of Saint Mark, a date that for years accompanies the history of the Serenissima (The Republic of Venice) and its patron saint, now become a symbol of Venice and of its image worldwide.
A full programme characterises the feast, created by the Comune di Venezia and Vela Spa. It will begin in the early hours of the morning to renovate an ancient traditon: the ritual of the “Bocolo“, a red rose blossom that – legend says – is given in this particular occasion. Also, on the face of all participants will be painted a red rose, making it the biggest face painting session to ever occurr.
In the afternoon, from 4 p.m., the events will move to the Sala del Maggior Consiglio inside Palazzo Ducale (invite required). Here, the 5th edition of the “Premio San Marco” will take place, an initiative promoted by the mayor that aims to appreciate the value of tradition and gives hommage to Venetian eccellencies.
