Dominating the namesake area of Campo Santi Giovanni e Paolo, the church is one of the most well known religious hubs in the city.
Being one of the Venice’s most important examples of medieval architecture, the Basilica of Saints John and Paul is considered the Pantheon of Venice because – starting from the 13th century – all Venetian Doges have been buried here, together with countless other notable personages.
Some city maps refer to this building by its Venetian dialectal name of ‘San Zanipolo‘.
